Jefferson Meadows History

History of Jefferson Meadows
(as compiled by courthouse records)

Jefferson Meadows was originally developed by the Jefferson Meadows Development Company, which was organized by Michael Dehlendorf as Incorporator and Charlie Ruma, esteemed home builder, best known as Virginia Homes. Mr. Ruma was well known throughout the United States, serving the National Association of Home Builders as President, and as a developer of golf course home communities.

Jefferson Meadows was developed in 7 sections, totaling 267 homes. The first recorded deed to someone who bought an undeveloped lot was to Stanley & Mary Hart on 10/8/1990 for lot 14 in Section 1, also known as 1401 Spanish Trail Court.

Sections 1-4 were developed by Jefferson Meadows Development Company and was a who’s who in custom home builders in the early 1990’s, including builders Wickline, Ed Linaberry, Romanelli & Hughes, Schottenstein, Walt Morrow, and of course Davidson Phillips Virginia Homes-Charlie Ruma’s company.

In 2002 Jefferson Meadows Development Company closed and Davidson-Phillips (Charlie Ruma) succeeded them and developed Sections 4, 5 & 6. Section 7 was developed by another Ruma company, OCT Property Development, and the neighborhood was mostly done in 2005 to 2007, with the exception of a few homes on Poppy Hill Drive.

Our world class championship Golf Course is designed by renowned architect Robert Trent Jones Jr.  This course inspires and challenges the accomplished golfer while offering several tee locations for players of all skill levels.  The 18-hole masterpiece was designed in 1992.  The links-style, front nine uses Scottish design principles and strongly defined shot values.  The back nine terrain is a distinctively classic, American design.

The spacious new Clubhouse opened in May 2002 offering private banquet space designed to accommodate up to 350 guests.  Other amenities at Jefferson include: six Har Tru clay Tennis Courts, a Workout Room, an olympic-size Swimming Pool, a Dining Room offering views of the sublime Golf Course, a relaxing Men's Grille Room and Catering Facilities accommodating parties of 2 to 350.

In the public records are some interesting and sometimes baffling findings:

  • The first numbered developed lot, known as Lot 1 in Section 1, was 7442 Spanish Bay Court, purchased By Diana Burton 4/20/1995, purchased almost five years after the first lots were sold.
  • The longest tenured families are the Silcotts, at 7360 Skyland Ct., who purchased their lot in November of 1992, and the Cruikshanks, at 1344 Spanish Trail Ct, purchasing their lot in May of 1993.
  • There is one piece of commercial property at 6460-6500 Taylor Rd that maintains a small strip of land that comes out to Poppy Hills Drive, putting them in the development.
